super-tall in Vietnam.

brief

The initial competition called for a international quality tower within the wider development masterplan for the former Ho Chi Minh City shipyards in Vietnam. The client sought a highly efficient core and lifting solution which maximised the floorplate efficiency whilst also offering flexibility in tenancy sizes and configurations.

solution

The competition was won thanks to a couple of simple design moves and thorough analysis of lifting and core strategies. A simple forty-five degree rotation of the tower unlocked site, delivering the best views across the city and eliminating the overlooking concerns from the adjacent developments. The podium space was accentuated by dropping voids into the retail level basement below. The tower was punctuated with a series of tropical sky gardens which alternated up the building. These created a patterns of linked floor clusters. At the roof a destination event space was proposed, providing dramatic views across the city skyline.
