Giving Macquarie Bank a new front door

Brief

The stately Macquarie Bank needed a face-lift—within its existing shell. It required a few updates as well, among which included additional offices, a refurbished rooftop garden (complete with a contemplative yoga space) and wellness facilities such as bike stores and shower facilities to promote health and wellbeing.

Solution

The Bank’s former entryway faced out onto Commonwealth Bank Place. With the new scheme, we relegated the entrance onto Chifley Square—a gesture to signal a redirection from the old and established, to a fresh era of new beginnings. A unified, tasteful blend of stone and glass, the new front façade is elegantly married to its heritage counterpart. At its rear the same design strategy is employed—an innovatively designed stairwell is placed to seamlessly unite both old and new buildings into a singular complex.
