Sydney University needed a new state of the art grandstand to accommodate the growing needs of their rugby union club. With spectator numbers rising and the potential for additional indoor uses, it was the ideal opportunity to create a new sporting landmark in the heart of the heritage campus.

solution

Our design solution split the grandstand into two elements, allowing framed views through the campus towards the St Johns clocktower in the distance. This allowed for the separation of the home and away teams, while creating a new hospitality venue with views across the playing field, above a high performance indoor sporting hall. The rear of the building features a pre-game courtyard space animated with an outdoor bar protected with a generous shaded roof structure.
