WestGrove is an exciting mixed-use development located in the up-and-coming medical and educational precinct of central Westmead. Positioned north-west of Parramatta, the project brief called for a design scheme to consolidate a variety of uses into a single, cohesive design. In place of an existing double-storey retail centre, the new building comprises of fifteen levels that will contain a hotel, medical centre, commercial as well as food outlets and diverse retail opportunities.

In our winning competition entry, we proposed a scheme centred upon the concept of stacking boxes up in the sky. By staggering these cubic forms, each box is clearly expressed and bears its individual identity and brand or use. We chose to emphasise nature as a recurring theme—we created an urban oasis within and introduced elements such as sky-parks and garden terraces of its rooftops. The result: a lush green retreat within the urban landscape.
