a beach within reach.

brief

Located in a parkland setting, the client wanted to provide a new aquatic centre which would be socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. Working within a tight budget and a steep site, the client required a variety of pools and community facilities which would be inclusive, connected and engaging.

solution

The solution we developed worked with the contours of the site to deliver an elegant low-profile pavilion with a dramatic undulating roof. The timber lattice roof plays with the idea of dappled shade; casting beautiful shadows onto the pools below it would create a sense of swimming under a canopy of trees. Sustainable timber was selected for its inherent beauty, but also as a low maintenance material capable of withstanding the highly corrosive pool environment. The scheme provides a community-focused venue, a ‘beach within reach’, improving the quality of life for residents.
